Disco Bloodbath

Recently I finally saw Party Monster, from Fenton Bailey & Randy Barbato, inspired by the book written by James St James, Disco Bloodbath, re-called Party Monster. Party Monster is a 2003 American/Dutch film that details the rise and fall of infamous New York party promoter Club Kid Michael Alig, played by Macaulay Culkin. Also in the film are Seth Green as the flamboyant and slightly smarter James St. James, Dylan McDermott as Alig’s boss/father figure Peter Gatien, Chloë Sevigny as Alig’s girlfriend Gitsie, Wilmer Valderrama as his onetime boyfriend DJ Keoki, Wilson Cruz as drug dealer/Club Kid wannabe Angel Melendez, and Marilyn Manson as Christina, a transsexual member of Alig’s entourage. A number of real life club kids appeared as extras, including fashion designer Richie Rich and David LaChapelle’s transsexual muse Amanda Lepore.

The Sockumentary (1998) is really interesting too, but waaaay more depresing.

Everything is based on a true story, on the murder of Angel by the so called King of the Club Kids. Increasingly affected by substance abuse, Alig and his friend Robert “Freez” Riggs murdered Angel after an argument over many things including a long-standing drug debt. Alig has stated many times that he was so high on drugs that the events are quite cloudy. Then according to Freez he hit Melendez a total of three times on the head. Then Alig grabbed a pillow and tried to smother him. When Melendez was unconscious Freez went to the other room and when he came back he noticed a broken syringe on the floor. However, Alig’s story was that he injected Angel with Drano, while Freez claims that Alig poured it down Angel’s throat and duct-taped his mouth closed.[8] Since Alig and Riggs did not know what to do with the body they put it in the bath tub that they filled with ice. This kept the body from rotting, but after a few days, the body began to smell. After discussing what they should do and who should do it, Alig injected himself with heroin, cut the legs off the corpse, and threw his legs in a garbage bag then stuffed the rest of him in a box. Afterwards he threw the corpse into the Hudson River. This is pretty fucked up.

Anyway the movie is somehow great and Macaulay did a great job interpreting the infamous Club Kid.

and then, the real Michael Alig :

sugar & spice

I must admit that usually i’m not such into girly design but hey, these pictures are pretty nice and the designer of these tulle skirts, Monique Martinez, is talented as well.

Monique’s label, Ouma by Monique Martinez, is characterised by the unique blend of tulle and cotton, which create the perfect balance of fun, comfort and glamour. Monique’s love of ballet, graffiti and comic book art are all reflected in her stunning designs.

wonderful shadows

Kumy Yamashita has a secret power. She can place wood or metal objects in just the right light to make mysterious shadow representing people. This is really awesome, because without the lighting that creates shadows, you can never imagine what are the secrets of these small objects. These surprising silhouettes only come out when beckoned to do so…

Tamara de Lempicka

An editorial by Spanish mag AR inspired by Tamara de Lempicka’s paintings. Not sure if i like it that much, sometimes i find the photo harsher than the painting, and i think it losts its sensuality …

but anyway, this is pretty interesting.
